महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-72, verse-37

स्वाध्यायाढ्यं शुद्धयोनिं प्रशान्तं वैतानस्थं पापभीरुं कृतज्ञम् ।
गोषु क्षान्तं नातितीक्ष्णं शरण्यं वृत्तिग्लानं तादृशं पात्रमाहुः ॥३७॥
37. svādhyāyāḍhyaṁ śuddhayoniṁ praśāntaṁ; vaitānasthaṁ pāpabhīruṁ kṛtajñam ,
goṣu kṣāntaṁ nātitīkṣṇaṁ śaraṇyaṁ; vṛttiglānaṁ tādṛśaṁ pātramāhuḥ.
37. svādhyāya-āḍhyam śuddha-yonim praśāntam
vaitāna-stham pāpa-bhīrum kṛta-jñam
goṣu kṣāntam na ati-tīkṣṇam śaraṇyam
vṛtti-glānam tādṛśam pātram āhuḥ
37. tādṛśam pātram āhuḥ svādhyāya-āḍhyam
śuddha-yonim praśāntam vaitāna-stham
pāpa-bhīrum kṛta-jñam goṣu kṣāntam
na ati-tīkṣṇam śaraṇyam vṛtti-glānam
37. They declare that such a one is a worthy recipient (pātra) who is rich in Vedic study (svādhyāya), of pure lineage, very peaceful, engaged in Vedic fire rituals (homa), fearful of sin, grateful, forbearing towards cows, not excessively harsh, benevolent, and afflicted in livelihood.
