महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-122, verse-3

न हि राज्ञामुदीर्णानामेवंभूतैर्नरैः क्वचित् ।
सख्यं भवति मन्दात्मञ्श्रिया हीनैर्धनच्युतैः ॥३॥
3. na hi rājñāmudīrṇānāmevaṁbhūtairnaraiḥ kvacit ,
sakhyaṁ bhavati mandātmañśriyā hīnairdhanacyutaiḥ.
3. na hi rājñām udīrṇānām evaṃ-bhūtaiḥ naraiḥ kvacit |
sakhyam bhavati manda-ātman śriyā hīnaiḥ dhana-cyutaiḥ
3. Indeed, O dull-witted one (mandātman), friendship (sakhya) never arises for powerful kings with men who are devoid of glory and deprived of wealth.
