पाण्डुरुवाच ।
सतामपि कुले जाताः कर्मणा बत दुर्गतिम् ।
प्राप्नुवन्त्यकृतात्मानः कामजालविमोहिताः ॥२॥

2. pāṇḍuruvāca ,
satāmapi kule jātāḥ karmaṇā bata durgatim ,
prāpnuvantyakṛtātmānaḥ kāmajālavimohitāḥ.

Pāṇḍu said: Alas, even those born into virtuous families, if their inner self (ātman) is not cultivated and they are deluded by the web of desires, they certainly meet with misfortune (durgati) through their actions (karman).
