For the ignorant individual, whose intrinsic nature (ātman) is rooted in ignorance (ajñāna), and for whom the conviction has arisen that the body (deha) itself is the self (ātman) – his hostile senses (akṣaripavaḥ), impelled by passion, overpower him.
