भगवन्नेवं स्थिते परे ब्रह्मण्येव विद्यमाने कुत एवाभित्तिचित्ररूपायाः सृष्टेरागम इति कथय महात्मन् ॥ १ ॥

Śrī Rāma said: O Revered One, since the Supreme Brahman (brahman) alone thus exists, from where does the origin of creation, which resembles a painting without a wall or canvas, arise? Please explain this, O great soul (mahātman).
