A mind (manas) stained by impurity (kalaṅkamalinaṃ) suspects hostility (śatrutvam) even in a friend (mitre). Similarly, a creature (jantuḥ) whose intellect (mati) is clouded by intoxication (mada) perceives the earth (bhūtalam) as spinning (bhramat).
