अथ ब्रह्मवध्याभयप्रनष्टे त्रैलोक्यनाथे शचीपतौ जगदनीश्वरं बभूव ।
देवान्रजस्तमश्चाविवेश ।
मन्त्रा न प्रावर्तन्त महर्षीणाम् ।
रक्षांसि प्रादुरभवन् ।
ब्रह्म चोत्सादनं जगाम ।
अनिन्द्राश्चाबला लोकाः सुप्रधृष्या बभूवुः ॥२९॥

29.
Then, when the lord of the three worlds (trailokyanātha), Indra, the husband of Śacī, had vanished due to fear of brahmin-killing, the world became without a ruler. The qualities of passion (rajas) and inertia entered the gods. The mantras of the great sages ceased to be effective. Rākṣasas appeared, and the Vedic knowledge (brahman) went to destruction. The worlds, deprived of Indra and powerless, became extremely vulnerable.
