हैरण्यगर्भाच्च वसिष्ठाद्धिरण्यकशिपुः शापं प्राप्तवान् ।
यस्मात्त्वयान्यो वृतो होता तस्मादसमाप्तयज्ञस्त्वमपूर्वात्सत्त्वजाताद्वधं प्राप्स्यसीति ।
तच्छापदानाद्धिरण्यकशिपुः प्राप्तवान्वधम् ॥२०॥
यस्मात्त्वयान्यो वृतो होता तस्मादसमाप्तयज्ञस्त्वमपूर्वात्सत्त्वजाताद्वधं प्राप्स्यसीति ।

yasmāttvayānyo vṛto hotā tasmādasamāptayajñastvamapūrvātsattvajātādvadhaṁ prāpsyasīti ,
tacchāpadānāddhiraṇyakaśipuḥ prāptavānvadham.

From Vasiṣṭha, the descendant of Brahmā (Hairaṇyagarbha), Hiraṇyakaśipu received a curse: "Because another officiating priest (hotā) was chosen by you, therefore you, with an unfinished Vedic ritual (yajña), will obtain death from an unprecedented being." Due to the pronouncement of that curse, Hiraṇyakaśipu met his death.
