कालञ्जरे मञ्जरिते करञ्जगुञ्जावने जम्बुकतां गतोऽहम् ।
गजेन पिष्टे हरिणा हतोऽसौ हस्ती मयात्रार्थमृतेन दृष्टः ॥ ४० ॥

40. In Kālañjara, amidst the blossoming Karañja and Guñjā groves, I became a jackal. Here, I saw an elephant, which had been crushed by another elephant and then killed by a lion, (and I saw it) as one whose purpose had come to an end.

40. בהר כָּאלַנְגָ'רָה, ביער הפורח של עצי כַּרַנְגָ'ה וגֻנְגָ'א, הפכתי לתן. נרמסתי בידי פיל, ובעודי גוסס ראיתי כיצד אריה הורג את אותו פיל.
