महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-8, chapter-65, verse-34

ततो धनुर्ज्यामवधम्य शीघ्रं शरानस्तानाधिरथेर्विधम्य ।
सुसंरब्धः कर्णशरक्षताङ्गो रणे पार्थः सोमकान्प्रत्यगृह्णात् ।
न पक्षिणः संपतन्त्यन्तरिक्षे क्षेपीयसास्त्रेण कृतेऽन्धकारे ॥३४॥
34. tato dhanurjyāmavadhamya śīghraṁ; śarānastānādhirathervidhamya ,
susaṁrabdhaḥ karṇaśarakṣatāṅgo; raṇe pārthaḥ somakānpratyagṛhṇāt ,
na pakṣiṇaḥ saṁpatantyantarikṣe; kṣepīyasāstreṇa kṛte'ndhakāre.
34. tataḥ dhanurjyām avadhamya śīghram śarān astān
ādhiratheḥ vidhamya susaṃrabdhaḥ karṇaśarakṣatāṅgaḥ
raṇe pārthaḥ somakān pratyagṛhṇāt na pakṣiṇaḥ
saṃpatanti antarikṣe kṣepīyasā astreṇa kṛte andhakāre
34. tataḥ pārthaḥ śīghram dhanurjyām avadhamya ādhiratheḥ astān śarān vidhamya karṇaśarakṣatāṅgaḥ susaṃrabdhaḥ raṇe somakān pratyagṛhṇāt.
kṣepīyasā astreṇa kṛte andhakāre antarikṣe pakṣiṇaḥ na saṃpatanti.
34. Then, quickly drawing his bowstring and destroying the arrows shot by Adhiratha's son (Karna), Partha (Arjuna), his body wounded by Karna's arrows, became greatly enraged. In battle, he engaged with the Somakas. So intense was the fight that no birds could fly in the sky, due to the darkness created by exceptionally swift weapons.
