महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-33, verse-29

कर्तृत्वादेव पुरुषः कर्मसिद्धौ प्रशस्यते ।
असिद्धौ निन्द्यते चापि कर्मनाशः कथं त्विह ॥२९॥

29. kartṛtvādeva puruṣaḥ karmasiddhau praśasyate ,
asiddhau nindyate cāpi karmanāśaḥ kathaṁ tviha.

29. kartṛtvāt eva puruṣaḥ karmasiddhau praśasyate
asiddhau nindyate ca api karmanāśaḥ katham tu iha

29. It is solely because of his agency (kartṛtva) that a person (puruṣa) is praised upon the accomplishment of an action (karma). And if there is non-accomplishment, he is blamed. How, then, can there be a destruction of the action (karma) itself in this context?
