महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-36, verse-38

कुर्याच्छुभानि कर्माणि निमित्ते पापकर्मणाम् ।
दद्यान्नित्यं च वित्तानि तथा मुच्येत किल्बिषात् ॥३८॥
38. kuryācchubhāni karmāṇi nimitte pāpakarmaṇām ,
dadyānnityaṁ ca vittāni tathā mucyeta kilbiṣāt.

38. One should perform good actions (karma) as a remedy for sinful deeds. One should also constantly give wealth (dāna), and thus one would be liberated (mokṣa) from sin.
