महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-36, verse-32

एष एव तु सर्वेषामकार्याणां विधिर्भवेत् ।
ब्राह्मणोक्तेन विधिना दृष्टान्तागमहेतुभिः ॥३२॥
32. eṣa eva tu sarveṣāmakāryāṇāṁ vidhirbhavet ,
brāhmaṇoktena vidhinā dṛṣṭāntāgamahetubhiḥ.
32. eṣaḥ eva tu sarveṣām akāryāṇām vidhiḥ bhavet
brāhmaṇoktena vidhinā dṛṣṭāntāgamahetubhiḥ
32. tu eṣaḥ eva vidhiḥ sarveṣām akāryāṇām bhavet

32. Indeed, this very procedure (vidhi) should be the rule for all forbidden acts. [It is to be followed] according to the method (vidhi) declared by Brahmins, supported by examples, scriptural tradition (āgama), and logical reasons.
