(King Janaka, who was) having joined palms, bowed respectfully to the son of Mitrā-Varuṇa (Vasiṣṭha), who was seated, supremely skilled in spiritual matters (adhyātma), and possessed of certain knowledge regarding the spiritual path (adhyātma-gati).
