महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-1, chapter-13, verse-21

न हि धर्मफलैस्तात न तपोभिः सुसंचितैः ।
तां गतिं प्राप्नुवन्तीह पुत्रिणो यां व्रजन्ति ह ॥२१॥
21. na hi dharmaphalaistāta na tapobhiḥ susaṁcitaiḥ ,
tāṁ gatiṁ prāpnuvantīha putriṇo yāṁ vrajanti ha.
21. na hi dharmaphalaiḥ tāta na tapobhiḥ susaṁcitaiḥ
tām gatim prāpnuvanti iha putriṇaḥ yām vrajanti ha
21. O dear child, indeed, neither through the fruits of virtuous deeds nor through well-accumulated austerities do people attain that state which those who have sons eventually reach.
