चित्रं विजृम्भितमहो जडसंगमस्य पद्मोपि यन्निजगुणानगुणानिवैषः ।
अन्तः प्रगोपयति कण्ठतले निवेश्य सर्वस्य दर्शयति दुर्भगकण्टकौघम् ॥ १८ ॥

jaḍa-saṅgamasya citram vijṛmbhitam yat eṣaḥ padmaḥ api nija-guṇān aguṇān iva kaṇṭha-tale niveśya antaḥ pragopayati (ca) sarvasya durbhaga-kaṇṭakaugham darśayati.
18. Oh, what a strange display is this association with the inert! Even the lotus, this one, hides its own good qualities within, as if they were flaws, by placing them at the base of its stem, and instead shows everyone a multitude of wretched thorns.
