वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-4, chapter-27, verse-44

उपकारेण वीरो हि प्रतिकारेण युज्यते ।
अकृतज्ञो ऽप्रतिकृतो हन्ति सत्त्ववतां मनः ॥४४॥
44. upakāreṇa vīro hi pratikāreṇa yujyate ,
akṛtajño'pratikṛto hanti sattvavatāṃ manaḥ.

44. Indeed, a brave person is bound to a return favor by a good deed. An ungrateful individual, who does not reciprocate, hurts the heart of noble persons.
