मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-68, verse-21

तमःप्रधानो भवति यतोऽसौ तामसो निधिः ।
व्यवहारानशेषांस्तु पुण्यजातैः करोति च ॥२१॥
21. tamaḥpradhāno bhavati yato'sau tāmaso nidhiḥ .
vyavahārānaśeṣāṃstu puṇyajātaiḥ karoti ca.
21. tamaḥpradhānaḥ bhavati yataḥ asau tāmasaḥ nidhiḥ
vyavahārān aśeṣān tu puṇyajātaiḥ karoti ca
21. He becomes predominantly dominated by the quality of darkness (tamas) because that treasure is tāmasic. And he conducts all his various affairs by means of his accumulated merits.
