महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-4, chapter-4, verse-25

शूरोऽस्मीति न दृप्तः स्याद्बुद्धिमानिति वा पुनः ।
प्रियमेवाचरन्राज्ञः प्रियो भवति भोगवान् ॥२५॥
25. śūro'smīti na dṛptaḥ syādbuddhimāniti vā punaḥ ,
priyamevācaranrājñaḥ priyo bhavati bhogavān.
25. śūraḥ asmi iti na dṛptaḥ syāt buddhimān iti vā punaḥ
priyam eva ācaran rājñaḥ priyaḥ bhavati bhogavān
25. One should not become arrogant thinking, "I am brave," or, "I am intelligent." Rather, by consistently acting in a pleasing way towards the king, one becomes dear (priya) to him and enjoys prosperity.
