महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-62, verse-29

प्रत्यक्षं प्रीतिजननं भोक्तृदात्रोर्भवत्युत ।
सर्वाण्यन्यानि दानानि परोक्षफलवन्त्युत ॥२९॥
29. pratyakṣaṁ prītijananaṁ bhoktṛdātrorbhavatyuta ,
sarvāṇyanyāni dānāni parokṣaphalavantyuta.

29. A gift given directly generates immediate joy for both the recipient and the giver. All other forms of giving (dāna), however, yield results that are not immediately perceptible.
