महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-3, chapter-262, verse-16

रावणस्तु यतिर्भूत्वा मुण्डः कुण्डी त्रिदण्डधृक् ।
मृगश्च भूत्वा मारीचस्तं देशमुपजग्मतुः ॥१६॥
16. rāvaṇastu yatirbhūtvā muṇḍaḥ kuṇḍī tridaṇḍadhṛk ,
mṛgaśca bhūtvā mārīcastaṁ deśamupajagmatuḥ.
16. rāvaṇaḥ tu yatiḥ bhūtvā muṇḍaḥ kuṇḍī tridaṇḍadhṛk
mṛgaḥ ca bhūtvā mārīcaḥ tam deśam upajagmatuḥ
16. But Ravana, transforming himself into an ascetic (yati) — bald, carrying a water pot (kuṇḍī), and holding a triple staff (tridaṇḍadhṛk) — and Maricha, having become a deer (mṛga), both approached that spot.
