महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-94, verse-31

जमदग्निरुवाच ।
प्रतिग्रहे संयमो वै तपो धारयते ध्रुवम् ।
तद्धनं ब्राह्मणस्येह लुभ्यमानस्य विस्रवेत् ॥३१॥
31. jamadagniruvāca ,
pratigrahe saṁyamo vai tapo dhārayate dhruvam ,
taddhanaṁ brāhmaṇasyeha lubhyamānasya visravet.
31. jamadagniḥ uvāca pratigrahe saṃyamaḥ vai tapaḥ dhārayate
dhruvam tat dhanaṃ brāhmaṇasya iha lubhyamānasya visravet

dhārayate iha lubhyamānasya brāhmaṇasya tat dhanaṃ visravet
31. Jamadagni said: Self-restraint (saṃyama) in accepting gifts indeed maintains one's austerity (tapas) steadfastly. But for a Brahmin (brāhmaṇa) who becomes greedy in this world, that wealth will surely leak away.
