However, a Brahmin (brāhmaṇa) whose primary duty (karma) is fulfilled solely through self-study (svādhyāya)—he may or may not perform other actions. Such a Brahmin (brāhmaṇa) is considered 'friendly' or 'benevolent' (maitra).
