महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-288, verse-29

सत्यं दमं ह्यार्जवमानृशंस्यं धृतिं तितिक्षामभिसेवमानः ।
स्वाध्यायनित्योऽस्पृहयन्परेषामेकान्तशील्यूर्ध्वगतिर्भवेत्सः ॥२९॥
29. satyaṁ damaṁ hyārjavamānṛśaṁsyaṁ; dhṛtiṁ titikṣāmabhisevamānaḥ ,
svādhyāyanityo'spṛhayanpareṣā;mekāntaśīlyūrdhvagatirbhavetsaḥ.
29. satyam damam hi ārjavam ānṛśaṃsyam
dhṛtim titikṣām abhisevamānaḥ
svādhyāya-nityaḥ aspṛhayan pareṣām
ekāntaśīlyūrdhvagatiḥ bhavet saḥ
29. saḥ hi satyam damam ārjavam ānṛśaṃsyam dhṛtim titikṣām abhisevamānaḥ,

29. Indeed, that person who practices truthfulness (satyam), self-control (dama), straightforwardness, non-cruelty, fortitude, and forbearance (titikṣā); who is constantly engaged in self-study (svādhyāya), not coveting the possessions of others, and whose elevated path is characterized by singular conduct, he will attain that state.
