महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-288, verse-12

आक्रुश्यमानो न वदामि किंचित्क्षमाम्यहं ताड्यमानश्च नित्यम् ।
श्रेष्ठं ह्येतत्क्षममप्याहुरार्याः सत्यं तथैवार्जवमानृशंस्यम् ॥१२॥
12. ākruśyamāno na vadāmi kiṁci;tkṣamāmyahaṁ tāḍyamānaśca nityam ,
śreṣṭhaṁ hyetatkṣamamapyāhurāryāḥ; satyaṁ tathaivārjavamānṛśaṁsyam.
12. ākruśyamānaḥ na vadāmi kiṃcit kṣamāmi
aham tāḍyamānaḥ ca nityam | śreṣṭham
hi etat kṣamam api āhuḥ āryāḥ
satyam tathā eva ārjavam ānṛśaṃsyam
12. aham ākruśyamānaḥ na kiṃcit vadāmi,
ca tāḍyamānaḥ nityam kṣamāmi.
hi āryāḥ etat kṣamam api satyam tathā eva ārjavam ānṛśaṃsyam ca śreṣṭham āhuḥ.
12. When I am reviled, I do not say anything. When I am struck, I constantly forgive. Indeed, the noble ones declare this forbearance (kṣamā) to be supreme, as are truth (satya), straightforwardness, and compassion.
