महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-288, verse-20

नाहं शप्तः प्रतिशपामि किंचिद्दमं द्वारं ह्यमृतस्येह वेद्मि ।
गुह्यं ब्रह्म तदिदं वो ब्रवीमि न मानुषाच्छ्रेष्ठतरं हि किंचित् ॥२०॥
20. nāhaṁ śaptaḥ pratiśapāmi kiṁci;ddamaṁ dvāraṁ hyamṛtasyeha vedmi ,
guhyaṁ brahma tadidaṁ vo bravīmi; na mānuṣācchreṣṭhataraṁ hi kiṁcit.
20. na aham śaptaḥ pratiśapāmi kiñcit
damam dvāram hi amṛtasya iha vedmi
guhyam brahma tat idam vaḥ bravīmi
na mānuṣāt śreṣṭhataram hi kiñcit
20. aham śaptaḥ na pratiśapāmi kiñcit,
hi damam amṛtasya dvāram iha vedmi.
tat guhyam brahma idam vaḥ bravīmi: hi mānuṣāt kiñcit na śreṣṭhataram.
20. I do not curse back anyone who curses me, for I know that self-control (dama) is indeed the gateway to immortality in this world. This secret ultimate reality (brahman) I declare to you: nothing is superior to a human being.
