वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-6, chapter-87, verse-23

चेरतुश्च चिरं चित्रं मण्डलं सव्यदक्षिणम् ।
बाणवेगान् समुदीक्ष्य समरेष्वपराजितौ ॥२३॥
23. ceratuśca ciraṃ citraṃ maṇḍalaṃ savyadakṣiṇam ,
bāṇavegān samudīkṣya samareṣvaparājitau.

23. And for a long time, the two (Rāma and Rāvaṇa), undefeated in battles, moved in an astonishing circular pattern, both clockwise and counter-clockwise, observing the swift flight of arrows.
