मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-72, verse-5

राजोवाच ।
न भक्षिता मे दयिता श्वापदैः सा हि जीवति ।
अविदूषितचारित्रा कथमेतत्करोम्यहम् ॥५॥

na bhakṣitā me dayitā śvāpadaiḥ sā hi jīvati .
avidūṣitacāritrā kathametatkaromyaham.

5. The King said, "My beloved was not devoured by wild animals; indeed, she is alive. How can I act in this way towards a woman whose character is unblemished?"
