janāḥ yaḥ devam cara-acara-ātmānam śrīvatsa-aṅkam su-varcasam padma-nābham na jānāti,

Those people (janāḥ) who do not recognize (na jānāti) the divine being (devam) who is the self (ātman) of all moving and unmoving things (cara-acara), who bears the mark of Śrīvatsa (śrīvatsāṅkam), who is resplendent (suvarcasam), and who has a lotus from his navel (padmanābham)—they call such a person "tāmasa" (ignorant and deluded).
