वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-5, chapter-28, verse-23

ततो मां संपरिक्षिप्य सर्वतो विकृताननाः ।
वधे च ग्रहणे चैव कुर्युर्यत्नं यथाबलम् ॥२३॥
23. tato māṃ saṃparikṣipya sarvato vikṛtānanāḥ ,
vadhe ca grahaṇe caiva kuryuryatnaṃ yathābalam.

23. Those with distorted faces, having completely surrounded me from all sides, would then make an effort, to the best of their ability, to kill and capture me.
