महाभारतः mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-144, verse-38

आदित्येन यथा व्याप्तं तमो लोके प्रणश्यति ।
तथा नष्टं तमो घोरं दीपैर्दीप्तैरलंकृतम् ॥३८॥

38. Just as darkness, pervaded by the sun, disappears in the world, so too, the dreadful darkness, made bright by blazing lamps, vanished.
