चेतनं राम संसारो जीव एष पशुः स्मृतः ।
एतस्मादेव निर्यान्ति जरामरणभीतयः ॥ ७ ॥

7. O Rama, this sentient individual soul (jīva), entangled in the cycle of rebirth (saṃsāra), is regarded as an animal. It is precisely from this condition that the fears of old age and death arise.
