मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-29, verse-36

अग्रं चतुर्गुणं प्राहुर्हन्तकारं द्विजोत्तमाः ।
भोजनं हन्तकारं वा अग्रं भिक्षामथापि वा ॥३६॥
36. agraṃ caturguṇaṃ prāhurhantakāraṃ dvijottamāḥ .
bhojanaṃ hantakāraṃ vā agraṃ bhikṣāmathāpi vā.
36. agram caturguṇam prāhuḥ hantakāram dvijottamāḥ
bhojanam hantakāram vā agram bhikṣām atha api vā
36. The best among the twice-born (dvijottamaḥ) declare the `hantakāra` (ritual offering) to be four times the `agram` (best offering). This `hantakāra` can be in the form of a meal (bhojana) or indeed the best alms (bhikṣā).
