मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-29, verse-20

नक्तञ्चरेभ्यो भूतेभ्यो बलिमाकाशतो हरेत् ।
पितॄणां निर्वपेच्चैव दक्षिणाभिमुखस्थितः ॥२०॥
20. naktañcarebhyo bhūtebhyo balimākāśato haret .
pitṝṇāṃ nirvapeccaiva dakṣiṇābhimukhasthitaḥ.

20. One should offer a bali to the night-roaming spirits by placing it in the air. Standing facing south, one should then make an offering to the ancestors (pitṛs).
