महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-58, verse-9

याचमानमभीमानादाशावन्तमकिंचनम् ।
यो नार्चति यथाशक्ति स नृशंसो युधिष्ठिर ॥९॥
9. yācamānamabhīmānādāśāvantamakiṁcanam ,
yo nārcati yathāśakti sa nṛśaṁso yudhiṣṭhira.
9. yācamānam abhīmānāt āśāvantam akiṃcanam yaḥ
na arcati yathāśakti saḥ nṛśaṃsaḥ yudhiṣṭhira
9. O Yudhiṣṭhira, that person is truly cruel who, out of arrogance, does not honor a supplicant—one who is hopeful and destitute—even according to their own ability.
