महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-58, verse-4

दत्तं मन्येत यद्दत्त्वा तद्दानं श्रेष्ठमुच्यते ।
दत्तं दातारमन्वेति यद्दानं भरतर्षभ ॥४॥
4. dattaṁ manyeta yaddattvā taddānaṁ śreṣṭhamucyate ,
dattaṁ dātāramanveti yaddānaṁ bharatarṣabha.
4. dattam manyeta yat dattvā tat dānam śreṣṭham ucyate
dattam dātāram anveti yat dānam bharatarṣabha
4. yat dattvā dattam manyeta tat dānam śreṣṭham ucyate
bharatarṣabha yat dānam dattam dātāram anveti
4. That offering (dāna), by giving which one feels it has been truly given, is declared to be the most excellent. O best of Bharatas, that is the offering (dāna) where the given item accompanies the giver.
