महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-58, verse-31

अवेदानामकीर्तीनामलोकानामयज्वनाम् ।
कोऽस्माकं जीवितेनार्थस्तद्धि नो ब्राह्मणाश्रयम् ॥३१॥
31. avedānāmakīrtīnāmalokānāmayajvanām ,
ko'smākaṁ jīvitenārthastaddhi no brāhmaṇāśrayam.

31. What is the purpose of life for us, who are without Vedic knowledge, without fame, without access to (higher) worlds, and who do not perform (Vedic rituals)? Indeed, our very existence is dependent on brahmins.
