महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-12, chapter-324, verse-5

नैष धर्मः सतां देवा यत्र वध्येत वै पशुः ।
इदं कृतयुगं श्रेष्ठं कथं वध्येत वै पशुः ॥५॥
5. naiṣa dharmaḥ satāṁ devā yatra vadhyeta vai paśuḥ ,
idaṁ kṛtayugaṁ śreṣṭhaṁ kathaṁ vadhyeta vai paśuḥ.
5. na eṣaḥ dharmaḥ satām devāḥ yatra vadhyeta vai paśuḥ
idam kṛtayugam śreṣṭham katham vadhyeta vai paśuḥ
5. devāḥ eṣaḥ na satām dharmaḥ yatra paśuḥ vai vadhyeta

5. "This is not the natural law (dharma) for virtuous people, O gods, where an animal would indeed be killed. This is the supreme Krita Yuga; how could an animal possibly be killed?"
