मार्कण्डेय-पुराणम्       mārkaṇḍeya-purāṇam - chapter-126, verse-36

पालनाय क्षितेः क्लेशमङ्गीकर्तुमिहार्हसि ।
इति वृत्तमृषीणां यद्व्यसनं त्वयि शासति ॥३६॥
36. pālanāya kṣiteḥ kleśamaṅgīkartumihārhasi .
iti vṛttamṛṣīṇāṃ yadvyasanaṃ tvayi śāsati.
36. pālanāya kṣiteḥ kleśam aṅgīkartum iha arhasi
iti vṛttam ṛṣīṇām yat vyasanam tvayi śāsati
36. You ought to undertake hardship here for the protection of the earth. A calamity (vyasana) has thus occurred to the sages while you were ruling.
