महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-13, chapter-54, verse-26

त्रैलोक्यराज्यादपि हि तप एव विशिष्यते ।
तपसा हि सुतप्तेन क्रीडत्येष तपोधनः ॥२६॥
26. trailokyarājyādapi hi tapa eva viśiṣyate ,
tapasā hi sutaptena krīḍatyeṣa tapodhanaḥ.
26. trailokyārājyāt api hi tapas eva viśiṣyate
tapasā hi sutaptena krīḍati eṣaḥ tapodhanaḥ
26. Indeed, asceticism (tapas) alone surpasses even the dominion over the three worlds. For, this ascetic (tapodhana), whose wealth is (tapas), delights through intensely performed (tapas).
