श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
प्राप्तेषु सुखदुःखेषु यो नश्यति स नश्यति ।
यो न नश्यत्यनाशोऽसावलं शास्त्रोपदेशनैः ॥ १ ॥

Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: He who is overcome by happiness and unhappiness when they are experienced, he truly perishes. But he who is not overcome is indestructible; for such a one, instructions from the scriptures (śāstra) are indeed superfluous.
