वाल्मीकि-रामायणम्       vālmīki-rāmāyaṇam - book-7, chapter-13, verse-21

अहं तु हिमवत्पृष्ठं गतो धर्ममुपासितुम् ।
रौद्रं व्रतं समास्थाय नियतो नियतेन्द्रियः ॥२१॥
21. ahaṃ tu himavatpṛṣṭhaṃ gato dharmamupāsitum ,
raudraṃ vrataṃ samāsthāya niyato niyatendriyaḥ.
21. ahaṃ tu himavat pṛṣṭham gataḥ dharmam upāsitum
raudram vratam samāsthāya niyataḥ niyata indriyaḥ
21. tu ahaṃ niyataḥ niyata indriyaḥ raudram vratam
samāsthāya dharmam upāsitum himavat pṛṣṭham gataḥ
21. I, however, went to the peak of Himavat (the Himalayas) to observe my spiritual duty (dharma), having undertaken a severe vow, self-controlled and with my senses restrained.
