महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-2, verse-32

तं चेन्मृत्युः सर्वहरोऽभिरक्षेत्सदाप्रमत्तः समरे किरीटिनम् ।
तथापि हन्तास्मि समेत्य संख्ये यास्यामि वा भीष्मपथा यमाय ॥३२॥
32. taṁ cenmṛtyuḥ sarvaharo'bhirakṣe;tsadāpramattaḥ samare kirīṭinam ,
tathāpi hantāsmi sametya saṁkhye; yāsyāmi vā bhīṣmapathā yamāya.
32. tam cet mṛtyuḥ sarvaharah abhirakṣet
sadā-apramattaḥ samare kirīṭinam
tathāpi hantā asmi sametya
saṅkhye yāsyāmi vā bhīṣmapathāt yamāya
32. cet sarvaharaḥ mṛtyuḥ sadā-apramattaḥ kirīṭinam samare tam abhirakṣet,
tathā api (aham) saṅkhye sametya hantā asmi; vā bhīṣmapathāt yamāya yāsyāmi.
32. Even if all-destroying Death (mṛtyu) were to protect Arjuna (kirīṭinam), who is ever vigilant in battle, still I would slay him upon encountering him in combat. Otherwise, I myself shall go to Yama by the path of Bhīṣma.
