महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-7, chapter-2, verse-1

संजय उवाच ।
हतं भीष्ममाधिरथिर्विदित्वा भिन्नां नावमिवात्यगाधे कुरूणाम् ।
सोदर्यवद्व्यसनात्सूतपुत्रः संतारयिष्यंस्तव पुत्रस्य सेनाम् ॥१॥
1. saṁjaya uvāca ,
hataṁ bhīṣmamādhirathirviditvā; bhinnāṁ nāvamivātyagādhe kurūṇām ,
sodaryavadvyasanātsūtaputraḥ; saṁtārayiṣyaṁstava putrasya senām.
1. saṃjaya uvāca hatam bhīṣmam ādhirathiḥ
viditvā bhinnām nāvam iva atyagādhe
kurūṇām sodaryavat vyasanāt sūtaputraḥ
saṃ tārayiṣyan tava putrasya senām

bhīṣmam hatam viditvā kurūṇām atyagādhe
bhinnām nāvam iva tava putrasya
senām vyasanāt sodaryavat saṃtārayiṣyan
1. Sanjaya said: Adhiratha's son (Karna), upon learning that Bhishma was slain, [saw] the Kurus [in a state] like a broken boat in a boundless deep; the son of Sūta (Karna), like a brother, then intended to rescue your son's army from that distress.
