And that Bhishma (bhīṣma), O descendant of Kuru (kauravya), true to his vow (yathāpratijñam) and victorious in battle (samitiñjaya), constantly inflicted destruction (samitikṣayam) upon the Pārthas (Pāṇḍavas).
