महाभारतः       mahābhārataḥ - book-5, chapter-164, verse-8

जीवितं प्रियमत्यर्थमायुष्कामः सदा द्विजः ।
न ह्यस्य सदृशः कश्चिदुभयोः सेनयोरपि ॥८॥
8. jīvitaṁ priyamatyarthamāyuṣkāmaḥ sadā dvijaḥ ,
na hyasya sadṛśaḥ kaścidubhayoḥ senayorapi.
8. jīvitam priyam atyartham āyuṣkāmaḥ sadā dvijaḥ
na hi asya sadṛśaḥ kaścit ubhayoḥ senayoḥ api
8. dvijaḥ sadā āyuṣkāmaḥ atyartham jīvitam priyam
hi asya sadṛśaḥ kaścit ubhayoḥ senayoḥ api na
8. For the twice-born (dvija) always desires a long life and holds his own life extremely dear. Indeed, there is no one like him in either of the two armies.
