Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: Renunciation (tyāga) that resembles a lamp with a settled flame (saṃśāntadīpasaṅkāśa) is perfected only when the world (jagat)—with its ego (ahaṅkāra) and similar constructs—ceases, and when there is realization (bodhe) of the essential nature (ātman) as an aspect of consciousness (saṃvit-kalā); it is not accomplished otherwise.
