स्मर्तव्यं भाववशतः स्मृतिर्नास्त्येव लौकिकी ।
स्मृत्यर्थस्त्वन्यदीयोऽस्ति सत्यात्मा त्वमिमं श्रृणु ॥ १६ ॥

That which is to be remembered (smartavyam) arises by the power of (illusory) existence (bhāvavaśataḥ), but conventional (laukikī) memory (smṛti) itself indeed does not exist. However, the (real) meaning of memory (smṛti) is of another kind. O true Self (ātman), listen to this.
