श्रीवसिष्ठ उवाच ।
एवं पृथ्व्यादिरहितः खमेवाद्यः प्रजापतिः ।
मनोमात्रमहं मन्ये संकल्पविटपी यथा ॥ १ ॥

evaṃ pṛthvyādirahitaḥ khamevādyaḥ prajāpatiḥ ,
manomātramahaṃ manye saṃkalpaviṭapī yathā 1

1. Śrī Vasiṣṭha said: 'Thus, the primal Prajāpati, devoid of earth and other elements, was merely space. I consider him to be nothing but mind (manas), just like a tree of imagination (saṅkalpa).'
