यन्त्राश्मक्षेपणानां प्रसरणसरितां घूकृतैः फूत्कृतैर्द्राक् क्रान्तानां व्योम्नि मूर्ध्नां शरसलिलमुचां सैनिकानां च नादैः ।

ca sainikānām mūrdhnām śarasalilamucām vyomni krāntānām
nādaiḥ āyudhānām nabhasi visaratām ṭāṅkāraiḥ aśvacakrebhaśabdaiḥ
47. Because of the hooting and hissing sounds from the spreading streams of projectiles launched by siege engines; because of the roars of soldiers, and the sounds of heads (of warriors or projectiles) that traversed the sky unleashing a shower of arrows; because of the twanging of weapons echoing across the sky; and because of the noises made by horses, chariots, and elephants— that place became numb in its rock-solid core and its hearing was utterly deafened.
